The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don’t.

What we find within any decluttering journey is when our outer space is clean and uncluttered, we have more clarity to examine our inner state and better decern what’s truly important.

  • I am embracing my greatest potential: I acknowledge the value of my life and the endless possibilities it holds. By living with purpose and authenticity, I empower myself to achieve my goals and create a meaningful existence.
  • I am trusting my inner guidance: I listen to my intuition and align my actions with my truest self, allowing me to make decisions that support my growth and well-being. By honoring my inner voice, I cultivate self-trust and deepen my connection with myself and others.
  • I am cultivating a nurturing environment: I intentionally create a personal space that reflects my values and passions, free from physical clutter and distractions. This mindful approach to my surroundings enables me to focus on what truly matters and fosters a positive, supportive atmosphere for personal growth and transformation.

Studies confirm what we feel about our clutter: it contributes to stress and anxiety.

Clutter creates stress that has three major biological and neurological effects on us—our cortisol levels, our creativity and ability to focus, and our experience of pain.

According to a study out of UCLA's Center on Everyday Lives of Families (CELF), the amount of stress people experienced at home is directly proportional to the amount of unnecessary stuff they and their family had accumulated.

So kudos! … for embarking on this journey to make a conscious effort to declutter your living spaces in order to foster a more serene and focused environment. In doing so, we are cultivating a sense of calm, enhancing our creative abilities, and ultimately improving our overall well-being.

It’s easy to get rid of things when there is an obvious reason for doing so. It’s much more difficult when there is no compelling reason.

Before we start getting rid of things that no longer inspire and serve us, it helps to understand what is motivating us to make this profound lifestyle adjustment.

Take a few minutes to answer this question for yourself,

“What might I gain by decluttering my environment?”

Example: “Freedom, mental clarity, healthier habits, consistent routines, more peace, joy, happiness, gratitude, space for what I don’t know I need to enter.”

Keep asking this question until you come to find your own realizations about why decluttering your environment is so important to you.

Then create a concise action statement declaring why decluttering your life is important to you.

Example: “Decluttering is important to me because I want to create more physical, mental and spiritual space for growth.”
