TODAY'S INTENTION

ARTISTIC - expressing whatever inspires the soul to sing

Today, let's redefine ‘art' as we notice what inspires our souls to sing.

What is Art?

How do you know if you are making it?  Is there a valid reason for having “Art” defined?  Wouldn't everyone have a different opinion of what Art is?  I am asking you because I simply do not know.

Let's look at this together.

The Autumn landscape is covered with Art.

Here are what some artists had to say about what Art is:

“Filling a space in a beautiful way. That's what art means to me.”
– Georgia O'Keeffe

“Art is harmony.”
–
Georges Seurat

“To me the thing that art does for life is to clean it – to strip it to form.”
– Robert Frost

“We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.”
– Pablo Picasso

“If one general statement can be made about the art of our times, it is that one by one the old criteria of what a work of art ought to be have been discarded in favor of a dynamic approach in which everything is possible”

– Peter Selz (1981)

“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity, devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter, an art which could be for every mental worker, for the businessman as well as the man of letters, for example, a soothing, calming influence on the mind, something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”

– Henri Matisse

What do you think Art is?

Is Art reliant on whether it's saleable or not?

Does Art have to be beautiful?

Can't art just be a soul's expression?  And wouldn't your soul be called to stand and marvel at whatever resonates and vibrates with it?  A song, a quilt, a sculpture, a dance, a building, a dress, a loaf of bread, a canyon, a sunset … a soul starts to sing and Art is born.

Well, that is the way I see it.  How do you see it?

TODAY'S AFFIRMATION

REPEAT OUT LOUD WITH PURPOSE AND INTENT:

“I Am the Artist of My Life.

The label of “Art” does not matter.

Creating is what feeds my soul.

For today's creative journaling exercise,

  1. Cut out, from magazines or images, at least five unrelated items (like…an umbrella, a giraffe, a spoon, a train, and a radish)
  2. Look at these five items and decide what type of background they would go on (the beach, a mountain, in a mouth…use your imagination.
  3. Arrange these five items on the page as if they were somehow connected.

🙌  You have just made a work of art.

“As I am constantly in awe of the beauty that is all around me.

I feel grateful for ___________________ “
