TODAY'S INTENTION

😱 EMOTION - channeling emotional energy into creative expression

Today, let's elicit the energy of our emotions to inspire our creative practice.

It is in Autumn that the impermanence of all things and the assurance of change are all around us.

For many people that may produce a feeling place of fear, anxiety, or depression.

What do you do when you feel the emotions of loss, grief, anxiety?

We play with our journal, our hobbies, and our creative pursuits and in turn begin to be creative about our family, our work and ourselves. Creativity breeds creativity across the board.

That is the beauty of the Creative Journal.

It allows for observation, imagination, and self-awareness to occur through an active creative outlet. Practicing any creative outlet benefits all other experiences.

Once you have created and externalized an emotion as something concrete and material, it is easier to acknowledge that such emotion existed in the first place. By creating, you give yourself permission, acceptance, and voice to the emotions that may be difficult to speak or even acknowledge. You might feel a sense of relief or a movement of an emotion once you have transferred it to your journal.

The more you practice, with intention, the more healing can occur.

We will give simple form to some emotions in the Creative Journal section below.

TODAY'S AFFIRMATION

REPEAT OUT LOUD WITH PURPOSE AND INTENT:

“I use my creative process to acknowledge and give a voice to my emotions.”

We are going to do some line and colorwork to give physical life to our emotions.

First, sit quietly, taking three long, slow breaths to bring you to the present moment.

Breathing in through the nose,
Breathing out through the mouth.

Breathing in feeling the lungs expanding,
Breathing out feeling a sense of letting go.

Breathing in to feel the body getting fuller,
Breathing out to feel the release of any tension.

Next, focus on each of the following words individually, momentarily feeling that emotion.

JOY

ANGER

FREEDOM

GRIEF

BOREDOM

INSECURITY

COMPASSION

ANXIETY

DEPRESSION

CONTENTMENT

PASSION

CONFUSION

EXCITEMENT

For each of these emotions use a continuous line (don't pick up your pen) and draw that emotion line.

For the same emotions, choose a color that resonates with each emotion listed.   Combine both exercises if that feels right to you.

“As I engage with my emotions creatively,

I feel grateful for ___________________ “
